Hi everybody,
For Module 1, section 3, activity 6, we have been asked to select tools to teach in SL. Various themes were offered:
- Delivery of learning material
- Communication and interaction
- Cooperation
- Creation of content
- Individualisation of learning paths
- Assessment, feedback and tracking
- Self-organisation and group-organisation
- Reflection and meta cognition
Moira (Busy Link) and I decided to go for "Delivery of learning material". We have selected this theme because it is fundamental to manage several tools in order to deliver our content using different means of communication to cater students different learning styles. Our selection mainly includes free tools.
We have divided our tools into these categories:
- Projectors
- Readers
- Givers
- Scripts
- Vocabulary teaching
To select the tools I looked into my inventory for the tools I have been using. It was not easy to decide on a small sample of tools. Finally, the decision was based on three conditions: user-friendliness, price ( free or not expensive) and different means of communication.
In order to present our tools, after some thought, the choice was a poster-tour. This poster allowed us to add a texture (the cover to our presentation), a notecard, a video, a recording, a landmark, and the URL to a website.
Take a look:

- The recording (audio link) is an introduction to our work (recorded by Moira)
- On the wiki (clicking on website) you will find a description of all the tools and some ideas to use them in education.
- The video (clicking on video) shows pictures of the different tools and who their author is.
- The notecard link will give you a notecard with the list of tools, the way to use them, and we are providing some of the tools. For those that are not given, you will find the place where to get them
- Finally, in the landmark link, we are giving you the landmark to Gavin Dudeney´s freebies tools in Edunation.
Here´s the video we included:

There are many more tools (free and non-free) to deliver content. This is just a sample of the ones we think should be in any teacher`s inventory :-)
Why we used web.2.0 tools to introduce SL tools: We think that blending offers the best of both worlds. SL learning activities can be enhanced with the use of web-based tools. We don´t need to be confined to one environment. Using web-based tools also offers our students or our audience in general, the opportunity to have access to learning material without being in-world. In this way, participants can check content from places where they cannot connect to SL:
